The challenge

Despite its positive reputation, technology-wise, Oak Wood was in need of a change. The staff of Oak Wood were utilising an old Alcatel phone system, with many of the handsets in an inadequate state. The IT team were reviewing the use of more cost-effective handsets to reduce their ongoing maintenance costs.

Additionally, the school wanted to page all handsets for emergency/lockdown incidents - an imperative factor in education today - and Alcatel had limited group sizes of 32 handsets. That's where we stepped in to help.

The solution

Based on the requirements of Oak Wood Secondary School, we supplied a 3CX in the school's Hyper V, with our expert team providing support on the OS and 3CX software and second-line assistance for any faults.

3CX systems are cost-effective, with a positive reputation for their dependability, high call quality and flexible scalability, with the power to support multiple, simultaneous calls within an educational environment.

Additionally, we provided a partial installation service, showing the team how to configure handsets so that the on-site installation can be self-installed and then self-maintained.

We sustained this solution using our Bronze Remote support, managing the VM Image for updates. Furthermore, 3CX provides a free-of-charge admin course so staff can manage the day-to-day changes the school requires. We recommended staff partake in this course so that they're ready and aware of the changes integrated into the school's system.

The new 3CX solution was installed over the May half term, with the Focus staff completing the core configuration before passing over the remaining configuration to the Oak Wood staff to complete.

Oak Wood Secondary School now has a telephony system that's prepared for the future landscape of education, enhancing communication, security and safety and keeping staff informed and updated on sudden changes within the school.
