The challenge

Icknield was going to implement a 1:1 device scheme, resulting in 700 Chromebooks to support the work of all their year groups. And so, the school wanted to replace its existing Wi-Fi network.

This 1:1 device scheme would considerably increase the number of devices using the Wi-Fi network, meaning device visibility and management tools were going to be needed for significantly more appliances. That's where we stepped in.

The solution

To get the ball rolling, our team deployed 47 Cisco Meraki MR36 access points, which created a Wi-Fi-6 standard network that would support more devices. At the same time, this would also improve speed and security, ensuring pupils and students can browse the web safely and swiftly.

On top of this, any performance or fault issues can be identified via a ‘single-pane-of-glass’ Cisco Meraki System Manager, an easy-to-use web-based dashboard which can be managed quickly from any location.

The results

Icknield Community College now has an enterprise-level Wi-Fi solution that befits a school of its size and utilises multiple staff and student devices.

The IT team has complete visibility and control of their Wi-Fi solution, enhanced by the knowledge and experience gained by the school’s network manager, who attended a Cisco Meraki training course as part of the solution.
