Give the gift of free Passenger WiFi this Christmas
By Sonia Older
Recent surveys have revealed that free WiFi on public transport ranks higher as a requirement for travellers than usual comforts, such as food and cleanliness. Strange but true.
And for the millions of Brits who will be using public transport to visit family and friends this Christmas, free passenger WiFi will be considered a basic requirement.
The amount of internet enabled gadgets carried by people every day has doubled, with festive travellers far more likely to be carrying every smart device they own. Think phones, tablets, laptops, e-readers and watches, all in the overnight bag along with the Christmas presents.
Transport providers are under pressure to provide safe, reliable and instant connectivity, so that families, students, lovers and mates all making the long train, coach or bus journey to enjoy turkey with their nearest and dearest will be able to get online for the duration.
Driving Home For Christmas… I do hope there’s free WiFi onboard
The importance of sharing photos, checking social media, listening to music, emailing family and arranging gatherings is heightened over the festive period and no one wants to board a train just before the big day only to go offline. Bah humbug!
Reliable Passenger WiFi is key to keeping customers merry this Christmas and a major part of a traveller’s experience. Any modern coach, bus, train or private hire company should be offering it. It’s easy to arrange and can offer travel operators plenty of benefits in return, such as marketing opportunities and data capture through genuine interactions with users and full linked in CCTV coverage across fleets.
All I Want For Christmas… is to stay connected
Travel operators should be looking for a reliable, scalable system that’s easy install and portable between vehicles. Focus Group offer mobile 4G modems fitted as standard, integrated GPS, real-time passenger information and a fully configured system for safer browsing.
Martin Murphy, Passenger WiFi Specialist at Focus Group, says: ‘Nothing enhances customer satisfaction more than free WiFi, and because so many Brits will be spending their time travelling during the festive period it makes sense to offer it to your passengers. It’s never more important to be connected than at Christmas, so don’t be a Scrooge and give the gift of free WiFi.’
